Sculptra is the first and original FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) facial injectable treatment that targets fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of ageing due to collagen loss. It gradually helps restore skin structure and volume and is longer lasting than traditional fillers.
Much of the skin’s ageing is due to collagen loss. We typically start to lose collagen at a rate of 1% per year after our mid 20’s. This accelerates to a rate of 2% per year during menopause and is a
Sculptra helps stimulate natural Type 1 and 3 collagen production in the skin. The poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA-SCA) in Sculptra forms a structural framework that helps support and maintain the skin’s inner structure, which leads to a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra offers long-lasting results by gradually enhancing the skin’s structure and firmness.
• Sculptra was first approved 1999 in Europe for filling facial volume loss and it is currently available in more than 40 countries globally.
• Sculptra consist of poly- L - lactic acid, which is a synthetic polymer that has been used in human body since 1960 and as medical suture material since 1970.
In clinical studies Sculptra showed a 66.5% increase in Type 1 collagen after 3 months.
Scupltra might be more suitable than traditional fillers if you have large amounts of volume loss that might otherwise require numerous syringes of dermal filler. It also lasts twice as long in the tissue so is ideal for patients who don’t have time to commit to frequent clinic visits.
Ideally 2-3 treatments of Scupltra are performed in quick succession across the selected areas and then you simply have to maintain with a single treatment every 12-18 months.
Scupltra is ideally injected across the temples, across the sides of the cheeks (to give lateral back lifting) and across the jawline and lower face to create vectors of upward lifting in the tissue. Over time collagen proteins in the tissue are renewed and resulting in tighter, firmer, more lifted skin.
Scupltra can also be used in the neck for bio-regeneration of the tissue the to treat creeping of the tissue. Scupltra is a more powerful treatment option that skin boosters like Profhilo in the neck and is ideal for more mature patients whose skin needs more help and intervention.
After your treatment it is very important that you massage the treated area for five minutes five times a day. This is to prevent clumps of new collagen cells and is advised by the manufacturers of Sculptra. This massage should be done for the first 5 days after treatment. Dr Ward will ensure that you know all of this and you will also receive detailed aftercare sheets that have this advice on too.
Your skin may look a little red and swollen after your Scupltra treatment and there is a small risk of bruising. These are normally side effects, are very transient and resolve quickly.
